About Us

CQUniversity Team Managers

The University Life team plays a major role in CQUniversity’s sporting success including managing and overseeing participation in UniSport Australia’s Div 1, Div 2, and Indigenous Nationals, as well as the CQUni Games (formerly known as the Chancellors Cup).

Regardless of your campus or study mode, we are responsible for helping develop student involvement in the sports sector across the entire University footprint. We are also active in enabling and supporting students in the establishment and governance of student-lead clubs and societies.

Our team is highly motivated to facilitate student participation, engagement, and achievement. For more information or enquires, please email to get in touch with members of our team. Our friendly staff are also available on-campus in Building 36 at the Rockhampton North campus.

Mascot - Birdy McBirdface

The University Mascot was named in a competition open to the general public that revealed Birdy McBirdface as the most popular name, a reference to the 2016 social media story where ‘Boaty McBoatface’ lead the online vote to name a £200m research vessel for the UK’s Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

The name was naturally shortened to ‘Birdy’, receiving chants on the sporting field. Birdy’s cheeky personality boosted team spirit, throughout the Northern Uni Games and the Australian Uni Games. Birdy has been featured at events across many CQUniversity campuses.

Make sure you say G'Day to Birdy when you see them around!
