Beauty students in Mackay have met the challenge to complete a whole day of bikini, g-string and Brazilian waxes and raised much needed funds as part of a Pink Ribbon fundraiser battling breast and gynaecological cancers.

Almost $1200 was raised from the waxing day (29 October), which also included a pink cupcake-themed morning tea and soft-muscle check service offered by Chiropractic Science students.

Visitors for the special fundraising day also gained advice on bowel screening, cervical screening and breast screening, as well as family planning. Flowers from Lisa’s helped decorate the venue with pink flowers.

Students also donated $1 from all beauty services booked during October. In addition, a fundraising raffle was conducted throughout the month.

Beauty Therapy teacher Taryn Burgess thanked all those who were involved in the fundraiser.

“We set a target of $500, not knowing how successful our event would be. I am so proud to announce that to date we have raised $1,199.80.”

She said the not-for-profit beauty salon at CQUniversity Mackay City campus (in Sydney Street) caters for hundreds of clients each year.
