Orientation Our Way

Orientation Our Way is a personalised Orientation experience including compulsory and optional online activities such as the Orientation TV live webinar, Orientation Boost drop-in sessions, and the Orientation Online Moodle site.

To create your personalised Orientation schedule:

1. Attend your preferred dates and times for Orientation TV
2. Attend the Orientation Boost drop-in sessions based on what you need and want to know more about
3. Complete the Orientation Online Moodle unit.

Orientation Boost

The Orientation Boost series offers additional, optional drop-in sessions, allowing you to create a customized Orientation schedule based on what you need and want to know more about. These should be attended in addition to compulsory Orientation TV sessions.

Orientation drop-in sessions will be held during Orientation week and the first two weeks of term, starting from Monday, 6 July.

All students are welcome to attend, including new and continuing students from all courses, including TAFE.

Academic Skills Workshops

The Academic Learning Centre (ALC) is a network of advisers located across the CQUniversity footprint who provide information, advice and resources to assist you with many of the requirements of study across four discipline areas.

The ALC is hosting Skills for Success workshops from 8 - 16 July, including evening and weekend sessions. Workshops will provide participants with the opportunity to:

  • Understand what is involved in writing for university
  • Develop skills in research, referencing, and planning to write.
  • Understand the Science of learning
  • Learn how the Maths and Statistics team can assist with the development of your skills
  • Improve your skills using Microsoft Office software and Moodle

Nat Vonthien is passionate about making change happen and supporting people to achieve their goals. As an Accessibility Consultant at CQUni, Nat works with students and academic staff to remove barriers to education and training. She enjoys thinking differently to find solutions to complex problems.

The Accessibility team provides a broad range of practical supports to assist students living with disability, medical and mental health conditions to achieve their study goals. Chris Veraa is the Associate Vice-Chancellor for the South East Queensland Region and oversees operations on the Brisbane campus, which hosts more than 1,000 international and domestic students. Chris is an experienced senior leader with a background in media, communications, public relations, student administration and student services. He holds an Executive Master of Business Administration and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mr Veraa will introduce students to the CQUniversity Brisbane campus, via a virtual welcome, a description of CQUniversity’s Brisbane operations, and an overview of the following topics:

Shehan Thampapillai is the Associate Vice President for the NSW Region. Shehan Thampapillai is responsible for and oversees CQUniversity Australia's operations in New South Wales. Orientation Online is designed to provide you with all of the essential information you need to be successful at CQUniversity. Modules, videos and quizzes will introduce you to our learning management system, Moodle, as well as all the other essentials.

To visit Orientation Online, visit Moodle, log in with your student number and password, and select ORIE12345: Orientation Online.

Orientation Online is not automatically available to STEPS, TEP, ELICOS, or students returning after a leave of absence if they have previously studied at CQUniversity. To request access to Orientation Online, please email tasac@cqu.edu.au.
