INTRODUCING LAPSAFE

Now you can borrow a laptop on the CQUniversity Melbourne Campus!

From Term 2 2018, students on our CQUniversity Melbourne campus will be able to borrow a laptop while studying on campus. These new laptops will be located in a self-service LapSafe unit on Level 1. Students will be able to borrow a laptop for up to 5 hours, and all laptops must be returned by the time the campus closes each day.
Students will be able to log in with their student number and password, connect to eduroam and use all the programs they use in our desktop computer labs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How to borrow and return a laptop?

The LapSafe is similar to the self-check machine you might use in the Library. Just scan the barcode on your Student ID card and follow the onscreen instructions.

How long can I borrow a laptop?

You can borrow a laptop for up to 5 hours at a time. When you check the laptop out, the due return time will display on the LapSafe console screen and you will also receive an email to your student account with the due time. All laptops must be returned by the due time and no later than the time the campus closes each day.

What happens if I don’t return the laptop in time?

Laptops not returned by the due time specified in the Library notification displayed at the time of loaning, will incur a standard penalty of $30.00.If the laptop is still not returned within 24 hours of the loan commencement time, it will be declared long overdue and incur a standard replacement cost of $1,800.00 plus a standard processing fee of $200.00.

What happens if I lose or damage the laptop?

Contact TaSAC to report the lost or damaged laptop. Students have an obligation to be responsible for the laptop they borrow. Should a rented laptop be lost or damaged, the borrower will be required to pay the cost of replacing/repairing the item. A laptop which is returned damaged will incur a minimum repair fee of $500.00 (up to a maximum of $1,800.00 depending on the required repair costs). A lost laptop will incur a standard replacement cost of $1,800.00 plus a standard processing fee of $200.00.

How do I know if a laptop is available?

The LapSafe can hold 48 laptops available for loan. Lockers housing a laptop that is available for loan will display a blue light on the LapSafe. If the light is red, it means the laptop in that locker is still charging, so please check back a little later. If the locker shows no light, then that laptop is out on loan.
