MyCQU - Foundations of Academic Integrity

Foundations of Academic Integrity

As a student, we want to ensure that you understand the ethical behaviour required of you, in particular, during your assessment tasks. To help build your confidence and capacity, we have developed a Foundations of Academic Integrity (FAI) training module that we are asking you to undertake as part of your studies.

Each year, for the length of your time as a student at CQUniversity, you will be required to complete the FAI training module. This module will help you to understand what is expected from you and how you can make the most of your learning experiences. Upon starting your course and again on the anniversary of starting your current course, you will be unable to access any Unit Moodle sites until you have completed the module.

All Higher Education students, as well as VET Diploma-level students, are required to complete the FAI training module.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I access the FAI training module?

If you are required to complete the FAI training module, you will automatically be redirected to the module when you click on any of your Unit Moodle sites before the term starts. Once you have completed the module, the redirection will stop and you will be able to access your Unit Moodle sites.

NOTE: If you can access your Unit Moodle sites without being redirected, you do not need to complete the FAI training module.

Why do I need to complete academic integrity training?

In workplace learning and after graduation, students will need to follow the employer's behavioural and ethical standards. CQUniversity has similar standards in place, designed to prepare you for success in the professional setting. One of these standards is called 'academic integrity'.

Integrity is about personal characteristics such as trustworthiness, truthfulness and right action. Academic integrity is the application of these ethical standards to our work as students and teachers.

Academic integrity falls down when we deceive fellow students, staff or the University in order to receive unfair benefits. The first step to ensuring academic integrity is completing the FAI training module, required annually for all CQUniversity students. In this module, you will learn concrete ways to demonstrate that your academic work is your own, as well as the CQUniversity policies that spell out how student academic misconduct is addressed.

What does the FAI training module involve?

The module consists of informational content, videos, and a final multiple-choice quiz. Please note, to be marked as complete, you need to attain 80% or more on the FAI quiz.

How long will it take me?

We expect the module can be comfortably completed within two hours.

When will I be asked to complete the FAI training module?

The module will need to be completed annually on the anniversary of starting your current course at CQUniversity. The anniversary is not based on the very start of CQUniversity study, but rather the anniversary of the current course you are studying – in cases where students are studying multiple courses at once, the applicable anniversary should be the first to occur in the year.
